INSTALLATION

Congratulations on your Heed sensor purchase 🎉 If you have questions get in touch

PRE-INSTALL FAQS

  • Anywhere your sensors get signal.

If reception is not suitable there will be connectivity issues between the sensor and network. You can install here, however this is at your discretion and will impact alerts you are able to receive.

You may get a better signal with suitable coverage by installing at an immediately adjacent location on the same line.

    • Excellent: >-70 dBm

    • Good: -70 to -85 dBM

    • Fair: -85 to -100 dBM

    • Weak: -100 to 110 dBm

    • Very weak / dead zone (unsuitable): <-110 dBM

  • If your sensor’s antenna is obstructed, it may fail to connect to the network. If this occurs, the sensor will automatically retry in 5 minutes time, and then return to its regular reporting cycle. Signal may be attenuated by:

    • Foreign objects covering manholes e.g. vehicles, pot plants, grass trimmings.

    • Liquid above the antenna, due to its conductive nature. This includes liquid in flora and humans. When taking a signal reading, occasionally a body in the area of the signal reader can diminish the incoming signal.

    • A damaged aerial. While unlikely, a visual inspection of the aerial cap will immediately reveal if this has occurred.

  • During location identification both M1 and NB signal strength will be tested. A better signal means less time to latch to the network and lower power consumption.

In some localities a network may be unavailable.

We use Spark’s network to connect, you can find their coverage map here.

Let us know if you find significant deficiencies on both networks in a large area (e.g. a whole street or town) and we will notify Spark on your behalf as they are committed to upgrading their network coverage.

APP FAQS

Install additional beacon: Add another beacon to an existing sensor

Replace head unit battery: Replace your head unit batteries

Uninstall beacon: Remove a beacon from an existing sensor

Uninstall sensor: Remove a sensor (head unit + beacon)

  • Before installing in a new location, it must first be set up in your Heed control panel. If you don’t have access to do this in your Heed control panel, contact your organisation’s Heed administrator.

  • Your Heed control panel login will give you access to the app.
